From 1 July 2018, the eligibility criteria – if you reside within the 25% most deprived areas, as measured by the government’s Index of Multiple Deprivation (IMD)” will be removed.
Ofgem have stated:
“The Fuel Poor Network Extension Scheme (FPNES) helps households that are not connected to the gas grid to switch to natural gas by providing funding towards the cost of the connection. Access to gas, a cost-effective fuel for heating, can be a good way to ensure fuel poor households can access affordable energy supplies. To ensure that the FPNES more effectively targets fuel poor households we are changing the criteria for the scheme by removing the FPNES eligibility criterion that the households ‘reside within the 25% most deprived areas, as measured by the government’s Index of Multiple Deprivation (IMD)’.”
